Stakeholders Suggested Not To Grant Amnesty To Serious Human Rights Violators

Parbat, June 16: The Truth and Reconciliation Commission are suggested by the stakeholders and activists not to grant amnesty to the perpetrators of serious human rights violation taken place during the insurgency period.

The civil society leaders and victims said at an interaction programme here on Monday that if the perpetrators were pardoned in the name of reconciliation,criminalisation would increase. Similarly, they opined that after holding thorough investigations anyone involved in the human rights violations should be brought to book.

Likewise, the suggestions for reconciliation between the victims and perpetrators was in the phase to collect by the commission if they lodge applications in the Commission seeking reconciliation,Chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Surya Kiran Gurung said on the occasion. He further urged not to interpret the move as a step for granting amnesty to those involved in serious crimes.

The facts would be collected based on the evidences submitted by the victims, from field study, public hearings and other ways, Member of the Commission Lila Udasi Khanal said.
