Stress On Maximum Efforts For Consensus

Kathmandu,11 Feb 2015: The second-rung leaders of the major political parties have emphasized that maximum efforts should be made for consensus though cent percent consensus was not possible in the Constituent Assembly (CA).

At an interaction programme organized by Reporters Club on Wednesday, the leaders of ruling parties expressed concerns to the UCPN (Maoist)-led alliance’s reluctance to come for talks despite the prime minister’s formal offer for the dialogue.

On the occasion, Nepali Congress leader Ananda Prasad Dhungana said that the Nepali Congress was for bringing the constitution based on consensus and expressed dissatisfaction to the agitating parties’ lack of readiness for talks despite UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal was urged for the same.

He said that the political parties should restart the talks from where it was disrupted on January 19 adding that the government constituted the Disappearance Commission and Truth and Reconciliation Commission to take the peace process to its logical end.

Likewise, CPN (UML) secretary Yogesh Bhattarai said the agitating Maoists and Madhes-based parties could not be awaited any longer if they don’t come for talks but continue the CA boycott.

Bhattarai added the tasks of the Questionnaire Committee cannot be withheld as demanded by the UCPN (Maoist).

However, the UCPN (Maoist) leader Lilamani Pokharel said that the talks with the ruling parties was not likely unless the Questionnaire Committee was dissolved adding that the ruling parties should express their commitment to write the constitution based on 12-point agreement, Interim Constitution of Nepal, 2063 and the agreements made so far with different groups.
