Student unions withdraw 3-day educational strike after deal

Kathmandu, July 3, 2018: The nine student unions coalition has called off the 3 day educational strike after the nine point agreement with the ministry and the representatives from the private school organizations held at the Ministry of Education(MoE) on Monday.

After various educational issues, the student unions had called for countrywide halt in educational activities throughout the country for three days from Wednesday. The decision to call off the strike came to end after a nine point agreement was reached with the stakeholders. Earlier, with the backing from Kathmandu District Administration Office(DOA), private schools came forward with statement to defy the strike and run classes regularly against the spirit of the step taken by the student organizations. The DOA, Kathmandu office had issued a public notice stating anybody imposing academic strike will face serious action.

Following the public notice, the stakeholders decided to sit for negotiation and the agreement was reached eventually. The meeting was joined by Surya Prasad Gautam, Joint Secretary at the Ministry , Department of Education Director General Baburam Poudel, PABSON Acting President DK Dhungana, and NPABSON President Rituraj Sapkota. The meeting started from around 4:30 in the evening took place till 11:30.
