SUGGESTIONS TO SETTLE DISPUTED ISSUES ON CONSENSUS

Kathmandu, Aug. 25: The Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee of the CA on Monday held discussions with the writers and columnists on contents of a new constitution.

On the occasion, the writers and columnists urged to complete the constitution writing process on time and make it all-accepted one.

Columnist Rajendra Maharjan told RSS that consensus and understanding should be given due attention and meet all the process on time though writing a constitution by incorporating the political parties with opposite theoretical basis was a tough job.

“We suggested settling the disputed issues on consensus as far as possible, and adopt the democratic procedures and process only after the consensus bids failed,” Maharjan said.

The major political parties are divided over form of governance, state restructuring, judiciary and other issues.

The columnists and writers have also said that continued talks and dialogue were needed to troubleshoot the disputes.

During the meeting, Chairman of the Committee Dr Baburam Bhattarai said that constitution can be promulgated on time as the talks were underway among the political parties.

He also informed that he was effortful to incorporate the sentiments and wishes of all sides in the new constitution.

Political analysts and columnists Maharjan, Narendra Jung Peter, Jhalak Subedi, Jugal Bhurtel, Amit Dhakal, Purushottam Dahal, Dhrubahari Adhikari, Shreekrishna Anirudra Gautam, Arun Baral and Babita Basnet, among others were present in the discussions.
