San Francisco, August 10, 2015: On Monday, Sundar Â Pichai, 43, was named chief executive officer of the Internet giant,Google, as Google revealedÂ a new corporate structure designingÂ an umbrella company dubbed Alphabet. Pichai, google’s new to be CEO has worked on Chrome browser and including Android mobile operating system.
Pichai will supervise Google and will continue to include some of Google’s best-known products, YouTube, search engine, ads, maps, apps, and Android system.
The current senior vice president of products,Â Google chief Larry Page, will run Alphabet, who showered praise upon Pichai.
In a blog post Page said that he felt very fortunate to have someone as talented as PichaiÂ to run the slightly slimmed down Google and this frees up time for himÂ to continue to scale theirÂ hope and ambitions.
Pichai, who has been at Google since 2004, impressed Larry with’s “progress and dedication to the company” and vowedÂ to continue to groom him.Â Larry also said, “I have been spending quite a bit of time with Sundar, helping him and the company in any way I can, and I will of course continue to do that.”
According to Google’s filing at the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Pichai superviseÂ product management, engineering and research for Google’s products and platforms, in his current role.Â Prior toÂ that, he worked asÂ SVP of Google Android, Chrome and Apps, currently on consumer products used by millions of people according to filing.
According to Business Insider magazine, Pichai worked on various search products, including Google Toolbar, Desktop Search, Gadgets, and Google Gears and Gadgets and he was also a part of the team that launched the Chrome browser in 2008.
As stated by Business Insider, prior to joining Google, Pichai worked as an engineer at manufacturer Applied Materials, followed by a stint in management consulting at McKinsey & Company.
He was described as polite, little-known, and a long-time right-hand man to mentor Page by US media.
Pichai, firstly from Tamil Nadu province in southeast India, collectedÂ a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur including aÂ Â Master of Science from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
As GoogleÂ continues to innovate and expand its product base, Page said that Pichai is the man to captainÂ the Google ship in the coming years,Â adding “Google itself is also making all sorts of new products, and I know Sundar will always be focused on innovation-continuing to stretch boundaries.Â I know he deeply cares that we can continue to make big strides on our core mission to organize the world’s information.”
