SUPREME COURTS STARTS HEADING AGAINST KANTIPUR PUBLICATION

Kathmandu, September 18: In charge of contempt of court, The Supreme Court has started hearing against Kantipur Publication.
According to source, the hearing could be longed till Friday in a division bench of Justices Gopal Parajuli and Cholendra Shumsher JBR.
The legal practitioners on behalf of the petitioners have demanded that maximum punishment as per the law be given for disseminating news and opinions for challenging the independence of the judiciary.
Earlier on September 12, a division bench of Chief Justice Damodar Prasad Sharma and Justice Om Prakash Mishra had ordered the Kantipur Publications to furnish a written response by addressing the concerns raised against contempt of court.
As per the Supreme Court order, journalists of Kantupur Publications submitted the written statement on Wednesday.
Advocates Anjan Kumar Pokharel and Ratna Kumari Shrestha have logged separate cases against chairman of Kantipur Publications Kailash Sirohiya, Director Swatika Sirohiya, Editor -in-chief Sudheer Sharma , reported Ghanashyam Khadka and columnist Bijay Kumar Pandey on charge of contempt of court.
