Kathmandu: The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) to launch new trekking routes in January next year.

The umbrella organization of trekking agencies in the country is in the final stages of launching new routes. According to TAAN, they are studying five new trekking routes outside Kathmandu Valley.

The TAAN secretariat has reported that it is planned to launch new trekking routes to make the Visit Neal Year (VNY) 2020 campaign successful.

The new routes include places close to the Annapurna area where good trekking routes are neglected, even for tourists seeking adventure. With the introduction of new Trek routes, the members of the TAAN will also be offering special discount packages on the new routes during VNY 2020. Trekking agencies will be booking new packages at a new destination at a discount of 20 percent to 30 percent.

Meanwhile, TAAN members will also be offering up to 15 percent discount on both regular trekking packages to both foreign and domestic tourists.

According to the TAAN secretariat, around 40 percent of tourists visiting Nepal come to the country for trekking and most of them are from China and Japan. Last year, TAAN issued trekking permits to around 76,700 group trekkers, while Nepal Tourism Board issued trekking permits to a total of 20,685 individual trekkers. TAAN also aims to encourage 70 percent of total tourists visiting Nepal to go trekking in 2020.

Meanwhile, TAAN is preparing to host an Adventure Travel Mart. According to TAAN, several domestic and international trekking agencies, including foreign and local buyers and sellers, will be participating in the event. The date for the event will be decided soon.
