TAC and WSA victory in Engage Empowering League 2018

Kathmandu, July 1, 2018: .Tribhuvan Army Club(TAC) and Wheelchair Sports Association(WSA) emerged victorious in male and female category finals of Turkish Airlines  Engage Empowering League 2018, the premier wheelchair basketball tournament held on 30th June at Dashararth Rangshala, Kathmandu.

The final day came up with four matches including both male and female for the title match and 3rd place playoff. The first and second game was for 3rd place between female team of BIA vs NSCISA and male team of BIA vs Pokhara. Both games were tough between the teams but at the end BIA took its opponents down and secured a 3rd position in both the matches. The first game was down to the wire as BIA winning at the last minute with a margin of just 1 point at a free throw shot while second game had the score of 16-09. Laxmi kunwar and Ramesh khatri were the highest scorer for their team in their respective games.

TAC and WSA victory in Engage Empowering League 2018For the first place, WWBA and WSA for female and TAC and JWSC for male faced each other with WSA and defending champion TAC claiming the title at the end. Initially, the game was in the hand of new team WWBA but WSA was able to beat them with their strong performance with a difference of 7 scores. The game was competitive between the male teams as for the first two quarter the game was in the hand of Jawalakhel but the army club picked up their pace in the destined position i.e winner. Jyoti Aryal and Gita Dulal both scored 5 points in their game whereas Raju Katuwal scoring 21 point became the highest scorer of the tournament for male. Prem B.K. and Hemkala Sunwar were announced as the Most Valuable Player(MVP).

This is the third edition of the League that has played an important role in raising awareness of disabilities and more in general on issues related to Gender, Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), contributing to a more just, inclusive development of the country, creating space for action and participation for persons with disabilities, one of the most vulnerable groups.
