Taskforce to make common concept on disputed issues

Kathmandu,5 Dec 2014: The 20 political parties under the leadership of the UCPN (Maoist), representing in the Constituent Assembly (CA), have formed a taskforce to make a common view on the contentious issues of the constitution writing.

A joint meeting held at the Parliamentary Party Office of the UCPN (Maoist) at Singha Durbar, this morning, formed the taskforce under the coordination of UCPN (Maoist) General Secretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

Co-Chairman of the Sadbhawana Party Laxmanlal Karna said that the taskforce would make the common view to promulgate the new constitution with federalism and federalism based on identity.

He said the meeting also decided to move ahead in an intergraded manner.

Co-Chairman of the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Hridayesh Tripathi, lawmaker Prem Bahadur Singh, Vice-Chairperson of the Tarai Madhesh Samajbadi Party Rani Sharma and lawmaker Ram Kumar Rai are members of the taskforce.

Authority has been given to the taskforce to make the common concept on the disputed issues of the constitution.

There is difference among political parties on the issues of state restructuring, form of governance, judiciary and electoral system.

Although political parties are holding discussions on the disputed issues since long, but vain.

The CPDCC has not been able to send a report to the Constituent Assembly so far for lack of agreement on the contentious issues. The top leaders of the major parties have authorised CPDCC chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai to exercise his conscience regarding the type of report to be forwarded to the CA.

It is stated that it would be easier to discuss on the proposal presented to the CPDCC by the Nepali Congress and trhe CPN (UML) if the 20-party front prepares a common viewpoint.

Leader Singh said that a common view was being forged to facilitate the discussions. The ruling parties – the Nepali Congress and the UML—had presented the joint proposal in the CPDCC last month.
