Kathmandu, June 28, 2018: To stand with the students of the rural area of Nepal who walk 2 to 4 hour to reach school Teach For Nepal will be organizing a walkathon on June 30, 2018, at the Labim Mall. The walkathon will be accompanied by a musical performance from Kutumba.

The walkathon will begin from Pulchowk, then it will move towards Kupondole, Maitighar, Sahid gate, Tripureshwor and back at Labim Mall following the same route. The route will be 5km, 1500 college students, and professionals from different sectors will be participating in the walkathon.

“Students in the schools where we work have to walk for more than two hours to reach school but still their quality education is not guaranteed. Most of the youths in the valley does not know about this problem. So, to make them conscious of this and to end the educational inequality we have organized the walkathon” said Jigme Sherpa, Teach For Nepal’s recruitment and selection coordinator. He further appended, “By walkathon, the youths will also understand about the movement that TFN has been leading.” Teach For Nepal is recruiting fellows for 2019 from July 1st.

“Change in education is a need at the moment, education is the backbone of development and we are working to end the education inequality of Nepal. This movement will not be possible if we try to do it alone, we need support from the youths” said Shishir Khanal, TFN’s CEO. He further said that TFN is a youth-led movement where youths make the impact inside and outside the classroom by staying in the community.

One has to raise one thousand rupees fund to participate in the walkathon. The title sponsor for this year’s Teach For Nepal’s walkathon is Citizens bank and Buddha Air is supporting partner.
