Kathmandu, December 31, 2018: Team Baja Nepal won Hult Prize Purbanchal University event on 29th December, 2018 held at Southwestern State College, Kathmandu.
They also received the cheque of 1,40,000 rupees from 2 judges of the event. The team impressed all the judges with their disruptive and feasible idea. Idea is about giving opportunities to underprivileged communities from Mechi to Mahakali. “Winner team has the potential to win the regional with no doubt”, says organizing committee.
This year Hult’s challenge was about providing more than 10,000 jobs in a decade. So students from all the faculties showed their interest for pitching.
43 teams were registered where only 25 teams were screened in first phase with the direct and indirect interview of participants by campus director. Out of 25, only 23 teams pitched their ideas on the event day in 2 rounds. Only 6 teams were selected for final round where they pitched their ideas in front of 12 judges of different backgrounds.
Team A2 milk and team Sewam grabbed the trophies of first runner up and second runner up respectively. Team A2 milk presented their research carried out at NARC with their unique business model to empower mountain farmers with their own local breed with no mutations. They are the first researchers to prove the non mutated milk in Nepali local breeds.
Similarly team Sewam presented their idea of using B grade apples of Jumla to make organic and safe cosmetic items.
Dr. Minendra Rijal, a member of parliament was also invited as a chief guest in the event. He gave a short speech on entrepreneurship. Team thutocycle was also praised in the event for their innovative cigarette butts recycling approach but due to the scalability problem, judges decided to support the team for final pitching. Event was also made entertaining with few cover songs of Sagun Rai.
“All the teams were equally competitive. But 29th December was in favour of someone else. Still no thing is destroyed, increase your hope, increase your level, learn each day, victory is yours”, says Campus Director of Hult Prize Purbanchal University, Sudarshan GC.
