‘Team So Po. Co.’ wins the HULT Prize at Kathmandu University

Kathmandu, December 15, 2017: Team So Po. Co. won the Hult Prize competition at Kathmandu University held on December 12 at the university premises. As many as 48 teams comprising of the brightest students to come up with business ideas participated in the competition; from which 4 four teams were advanced into the final of Hult Prize at KU.

Team Sambhav, Team Aqua and Team Neonoid grabbed the title of 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up and 3rd runner-up respectively.

Team So.Po.Co. presented a dynamic idea of brightening up people’s houses through an integrated solar panel system along with a digital signage. The team comprises of four bright young minds from Kathmandu University School of Management who will now be representing the university in the regional finals.

The judge panel comprised of some of the most reputed people from Nepal including Mr. Mahabir Pun, a social entrepreneur, Ms. Victoria Ous, Program Director at Rockstart Impact, Ms. Shanti Karanjit, Climate Change Analyst, UNDP Nepal, Ms. Shreejana Rana, Executive Director at Hotel Annapurna, Mr. Rupesh Krishna Shrestha, Co- Founder at Ideas Studio, Mr. Ashutosh Mani Dixit, former consultant at National Planning Commission, Mr. Amit Agrawal, CEO of Janaki Technology, Mr. Vishwa Amatya, Senior Energy expert, Practical Action, Mr. Amun Thapa, CEO of Sasto Deals, Mr. Prashanta Manandhar, Founder of The  Storytellers Nepal, Mr. Umes Shrestha, Founder of Empowerment Academy and Mr. Deepak Mani Dhital , Acting GM at Nepal Television.

This business pitching competition that takes place in universities all around the globe will now bring together the winning teams from their respective universities to fight against each other for a huge cash prize of 1 million USD.

According to the Campus Director of Hult Prize at KU, Mr. Gaurav Dahal, “Hult Prize comes like a festival for the universities as it manages to create a buzz for months. The unique thing about Hult Prize is that it not only promotes entrepreneurs but people who want to make a social impact through their activities are promoted and appreciated. This event not only manages to leave a mark on the world but also changes the mindset of the students by giving them new perspectives and making them look towards social problems that they never knew existed.”
