Kathmandu, September 25, 2018: Gandaki province and province no. 5 recently issued the 9 point agreement in the provincial level of Girls Summit 2075. The summit took place at Devchuli, Nawalparasi on September 21 and 22. The agreement outlined about the girl’s empowerment, the importance of participation in the activities boosting confidence and self-esteem in females and inclusion of topic for discussions like child labor and child marriage in the curriculum of schools.
The 9 point agreement also mentioned the allocation of at least 10% of the budget in the favor of children’s overall development from the federal, provincial and local level of government. The summit was attended by almost 1000 audience where Minister for Social Development, Nar Devi Pun emphasized on the necessity of child-friendly policies in the nation. She said,” Today’s young girls are tomorrow’s 51% female workforce due to which it’s really important to empower them. The girl summit has not only drawn the attention of Nepal but also the whole world to have a serious outlook on female rights.”
The event was collaboratively hosted by Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal, Child-friendly Local Governance National Forum, UNICEF, KANALLAN, CARE Nepal, CWIN, Child Nepal, The Garden of Hope Foundation, INSEC, National Human Rights Commission, District Development Committee (Nawalparasi) and other organizations from Sustapurva and Devchuli Municipality.
