Kathmandu, September 17, 2018: As per the bill of compulsory and free education, private school operators are now ought to teach 10 to 15 percent of their students for free according to the admission capacity. The priority for the scholarships will be given to the poors, Dalits and marginalized minorities.

According to the bill, schools with 500 students , 500-800 students and more than 800 students need to offer 10, 12 and 15 percent of scholarships respectively. The member of Education and Health Committee and Permanent Committee member of CPI (M) , Mr. Yogesh Bhattarai said,” The bill was discussed in the committee and is now presented in the parliament. The provisions arranged in law will be strictly implemented.”

The Constitution has announced free and compulsory education till grade 8. However, most of the private schools are still running by charging extreme fees rate because of which the law has been brought to implement the system.

Earlier, Education Minister Girirajmani Pokharel had passed a bill in the Council of Ministers, where he mentioned that 10 percent of the students should be taught free of school without recognizing their ability to admit the students.

The Commission drafted the law from the bill and was presented to the Ministry where it mentioned that private schools need to present scholarships to the 25 percent of students. But the Council of Ministry approved 10 percent from the 25 percent .
