The Night of Ideas 2018: Panel Discussion on the Strength of Imagination on Society

Kathmandu, January 28, 2018: In coalition with Nepal Economic Forum (NEF) and the Alliance Française de Katmandu (AFK), the French Embassy co-organized a panel discussion, ‘la nuit des idees 2018 (The Night of the Ideas 2018)’ on January 25, 2018 at Hotel Himalaya, Kathmandu.

With a theme of ‘Power of Imagination’, this event marked the presence of Aayushi Kc, Founder of Khaalisisi.com; Akhilesh Upadhyay, Editor-in-chief of The Kathmandu Post; Richard Werly, Journalist for Le Monde and Subina Shrestha, Journalist for Al Jazeera. Sumnima Udas, television personality and recent associated member of CNN moderated the program.

Yves Carmona, the French ambassador, addressed the opening note for the convention. “The events similar to la nuit des idées was organised in 150 locations of 60 nations. We are in a necessity of cross-cultural dialogue. Globalization doesn’t lead to uniformity; on the contrary, it allows for more diversity in the way people think.”, he asserted.

Subina Shrestha presented a very sound answer to the question raised in the panel discussion. On the query raised during the discussion,‘How does imagination drive the evolution of Nepali society in a global context?’, she mentioned that the political space of Nepal has reached a remarkable height during the people’s movement of 2006. Underscoring the need of such imagination, she mentioned the pros of the movement that led to the development of Nepal.

Aayushi KC voiced about the strengthening imaginative and courageous Nepali thinking. Additionally, she mentioned about the successful business they are advancing even in the presence of obstacles caused by mafias, syndicates and corporations.
