Three Romanians arrested on charges of ATM fraud

Kathmandu, November 7, 2016: Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police has arrested three Romanian citizens on the charge of withdrawing money from ATM machines by hacking ATM card PIN numbers.

Romanian nationals Ghita, Iosif and Alexe were arrested from Thamel, said police in a press release organized in the capital today.

They have been accused of withdrawing money by hacking the ATM card PIN numbers. Nepal Investment Bank had informed the police after smelling rats about the money withdrawn. Police was successful to arrest these theft accused after an investigation, said chief DIG of CIB, Nabaraj Silwal.

The bank had become alert after finding cash being withdrawn more than 10 times in a single stage.

Police has confiscated 3 lakh Nepali Rupees, 10 thousad Euros and 470 Philippine Pesos from their possessions. Police has further informed that they have also confiscated hidden cameras and devices used for stealing data from ATM machines.
