June 19, 2015: After consuming toxic alcohol at least 35 people have been killed in India’s western city of Mumbai, according to local police.
The residents of a slum who drank the alcohol fell ill on Wednesday morning. More than 20 people are being treated in hospitals and between all these there is fears that the death toll could rise. One suspect has been detained in the latest case.
Tayra Khan, wife of one of the victims, told that her husband was admitted to hospital early on Thursday after he complained of vomiting and pain in the stomach and said that he died three hours later, leaving her and their three little children alone. Toxic alcohol deaths are a regular occurrence in India, where people often drink cheap country liquor.At least 29 people were killed after consuming toxic alcohol in Uttar Pradesh state in January.
Reviewing the past records India has witnessed many other incidents of toxic alcohol deaths nearly 170 people died in 2011 in the eastern state of West Bengal and at least 30 people were killed in Uttar Pradesh in September 2009. similarly, more than 100 people were killed in Gujarat in July 2009.
