Chitwan, Jan 27: Two persons in Chitwan district have donated Rs 1.5 million to establish a shelter-home for cows with an objective to conserve the local species of cows.

Two business entrepreneurs— Dan Bahadur Shrestha and Uma Shanker Agrawal— of the district donated the amount of money to construct two cowsheds and breed cows at Devghat, said Tanka Nath Paudel, Coordinator of the Local Cow Protection Centre. The Centre has around 200 cows, currently.

Shrestha donated Rs 600,000 while Agrawal provided Rs 700,000. Agrawal also donated an additional Rs. 180,000 to establish a fund under the Center’s name, added Paudel. Agrawal is the Finance Committee Coordinator of the Center.

The Centre established by Yogi Narharinath at Devghat based Bageshwori Spiritual Council started breeding cows since 1992, said Center’s Secretary Navaraj Dhakal.

The cow farm has been started as a campaign to breed cows as the local species of cows were displaced by the Jersey and other species of cows of late.
