Bangladesh, November 4, 2015: Two Bangladeshi young stars Shougat Khan and MD Golam Kibria won German Green Talent Award organized by The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

They hosts the prestigious “Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development” on a yearly basis to promote the international exchange of innovative green ideas since 2009. A total of 27 winners were chosen by the jury, out of more than 550 applications from over 90 countries.

Shougat Khan’s research was focused in Solar Photovoltaic technology and research into irrigation pumps that integrate solar power. MD Golam Kibria’s research was focused in the development of nitride-based nanoscale photo catalysts for efficient and stable solar water splitting and CO2 reduction to generate sustainable hydrogen and hydrocarbon fuels.

The Green Talents Award held under the patronage of the German Higher Education and Research Minister Prof. Johanna Wanka is providing a platform for the seventh time to young talents to share their views on green ideas and concepts.

Their prize is one of the much-coveted tickets to the “Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development”.

This year’s “Green Talents” event included a two-week interaction with leading experts and some of Germany’s most renowned and prestigious research institutions and companies, among them Fraunhofer Fokus, KWB – Berlin Centre of Competence for Water, Ecologic Institute, Henkel and ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe.

Getting connected to the science community and swapping ideas with its key innovators allows the winners to lay the foundation for future collaboration.

Such efforts are supported by the invitation to return to Germany for a fully funded research stay at an institution of their choice in 2016.
