Kathmandu, 14 October 2015: A meeting between the major coalition partners CPN (UML) and UCPN (Maoist) held Tuesday ended with an informal agreement of allocating eight ministries including the post of Speaker to the UCPN (M).
The meeting attended by top leaders of both parties discussed the matters relating to the allocation of the post of President, Speaker and important ministries. The major ruling party UML is likely to get the post of President.
Newly appointed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli formed a mini-cabinet on the same day when he was sworn as the 38th Prime Minister of the Country Monday. He is the first Prime Minister after the promulgation of constitution through the Constituent Assembly in the country. There is a need to hold the elections of President, Vice President, Speaker and Deputy –Speaker after the promulgation of new constitution.
However, the decisions of the meeting need to be endorsed by the UML Standing Committee. If the things go as planned, the major ruling party will get the post of President and six ministries and party Vice Chair Bidya Devi Bhandari and Speaker Subash Nembang are the probable candidates for the Presidential post.
UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said a tentative agreement was reached to allow his party to head eight ministries including the Home Ministry and added that the party staked claim to the Presidential post.
According to him, UCPN (Maoist) will get one ministerial portfolio out of local development, energy or tourism, and one from among education and health. UCPN (Maoist) will get the Ministry of General Administration, said Sharma.
Meanwhile, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar has been appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure.
After the tentative agreement is reached among the two parties for sharing the major workloads the UML Standing Committee will hold consultation on Wednesday and then bring out the name list of its ministers, UML Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung said. The parties will start discussion on sharing the post of Vice President and Deputy House Speaker after agreement is reached on the posts of President and Speaker. Â
