Kanchanpur,11 Feb 2015: UCPN (Maoist) senior leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that new constitution would not be written unless a consensus was forged among the parties of the 12-point agreement.
Addressing the party cadres in Kanchanpur on Wednesday, Dr Bhattarai said: “New constitution cannot be imagined without consensus between Nepali Congress, UML, UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-centric parties.”
Saying that the NC and UML were working to bypass one of the signatories of the 12-point agreement and Comprehensive Peace Accord, Dr Bhattarai warned a grave situation in the country is such move was taken.
The former prime minister also said that consensus among the major parties was not forged as the existing leadership of the NC and UML did not participate in the CPA and 12-point agreement.
On the occasion, Dr Bhattarai said that the UCPN (Maoist)-led alliance was ready to sit for talks if the ruling parties halt the ongoing process initiated for constitution writing.
