Myagdi, 8 June, 2015 :Â Resettlement steps have been initiated for the resettlement of Baisari landslide victims in in Myagdi district.
After a heavy landslide in Kaphaldanda swept away the houses on May 24, total of 27 families of Baisari in the area were rendered homeless.
Currently,temporary shelters are being constructed for the landslide victims have been residing at Rahupare of Piple VDC-4.
Chief District Officer Tek Bahadur KC said, “A meeting of the District Natural Disaster Management Committee on Sunday decided to take steps to resettle the 27 families at a public land in Rithabot of Bhagawati VDC-1 along the Beni-Jomsom road section in accordance to the victims’ demand.”
CDO KC also said that immediate efforts would be taken to resettle the landslide victims, those lacking land plots in other areas, in Rithabot permanently by confirming the victims’ status from the District Survey Office and Land Revenue Office. However,for the resettlement in the public land, the Council of Ministers should take the decision.
The Committee said that appropriate land for resettlement would be identified after holding further consultations with the lawmakers from the district and stakeholders.
Requests are made for their resettlement in Rithabot hoping that they would earn their living even by running hotels in the area, said Chair of Baisari Landslide Victims Relief Management Committee Bhim Bahadur Karki. Before the occurrence of landslide, most of the Baisari landslide victims were running their livelihood by running hotels and shops.
However, secretary of Bhagawati VDC Bholanath Acharya said that problem have been arising due to land shortage to resettle all the landslide victims in a single area.
