Voting begins in Province No 2 amid encouraging atmosphere

Kathmandu, September 18, 2017: Voting for the third phase of local level elections has begun in 8 districts of Province 2 on Monday.

The Election Commission (EC) is conducting the final round of the local elections in 136 local units of Province 2 where 6,627 local representatives will be elected for which a total of 37,236 contestants are vying for the posts of chiefs and members of the local units and ward committees.

Eight candidates have already elected unanimously. According to EC officials, trere are total of 2,664,950 registered voters in Province 2.

The EC said it has completed all necessary preparations and more than 60,000 security personnel have been deployed for election security in the province.

The Election Commission, during a special press briefing organized in Kathmandu on the eve of the elections on Sunday, said that 31,500 polling officers and poll observers have been deployed at the polling centers. More than 2,100 poll observers are deployed in polling centers of the eight districts of the province.

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has called on the voters to confidently take part in the third phase of local level election taking place tomorrow, as full security arrangement was in place towards that end.

Terming the local level election as the foundation of democracy, the EC has called on voters to freely take part in the voting and cast their valuable vote being guided by self-conscience rather that threat and promises of anyone else.
