Ilam, Sept 6: A week-long awareness raising campaign has started in Ilam from Friday on the occasion of Eighth National Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
The campaign was jointly started at Pashupatinagar, a town bordering with India, by Maiti Nepal, District Office of Women and Children, District Police Office, District Administration Office and others.
Coordinator of Maiti Nepal Pashupatinagar Hom Dhakal said that the campaign would be tarted in Jirmale, Jogmai, Mabu, Pyang, Nayabazar, Gorkhe, Manebhanjyang, Pashupatinagar, Shreeantu and other VDCs as they are being as the major point for trafficking in persons.
Pamphleting, posters distribution, door to door campaign would be organized to aware the locals against trafficking in persons.
According to Maiti Nepal a total of 86 trafficked women were rescued from Pashupatinagar point and were handed over to their relatives in the last one year.
