What’s wrong? Nepal Army asks after row over welcoming Indian actresses

Kathmandu, may 17, 2016: The Nepal Army has been criticized by Nepali media for receiving Bollywood actresses Sonakshi Sinha and Malaika Arora Khan at the airport.

With media reports saying the move “demoralizes” the army and “reduces its prestige”, the army said it did not see anything wrong in the incident.

The Bollywood actresses had come to Nepal for a charity function, headed by the wife of army Chief General Rajendra Chhettri, for helping the of victims of last year’s devastating earthquake.

General Samir Shai was at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Friday to receive Sinha, while other senior army officials received Khan, local media reports said.

An army spokesperson said: “The welcome by the army personal was a normal incident.”

Army personnel worked in close coordination with the Nepal Police personnel for providing necessary security for the two actresses, he said.
