Nepal goes down 2-1 to Bangladesh in their last group stage match even though taking an early lead. In a sense that match even carried some importance though Nepal had already qualified for Semis. After the loss, Nepal finishes as runner up and now will meet the group leader Maldives of another group.
Here is a small analysis made by Glocal Sports member Anish Lamichhane.
Coach Raju Kaji Sakya had made few changes in the squad that had defeated Bhutan 5-0 in previous game. Star Keeper Bikesh Kuthu was given rest and Alan Neupane was given chance to shwcase his worth. Similarly, there was change in defense as well. And also the U19 pair of Bimal Gharti Magar and Anjan Bista was replaced by Ranjan Bista and Jagjeet Shrestha.
Today’s Nepal XI: Alan, Biraj,
Ananta, Aditya, Kamal, Bishal, Heman, Bikram, Ranjan, Nawayug, Jagajeet
This squad was quite different than that of previous one. Coach thought of giving chance to new one but didn’t think of winning the game. Alan Neupane made several mistakes and was a little bit nervous which cost us two goal. Similarly, lack of corddination between the players was another reason.
In addition to this, Nepalese goal machine, Nawayug Shrestha was continously marked by Bangladeshi defenders and wasn’t given any chance to score. However, other Nepali forwards couldn’t take advantage of this.
Now Nepal will take on Maldives on 13th of february for a place in the final.
