Kathmandu, 16 Oct 2014: The initiative of developing a ‘Wikipedia’ in Maithili language has been materialized. The Language Committee of the Wikipedia Foundation has endorsed ‘Wikipedia in Maithili Language’ which was brought out after six years of assiduous efforts, said the Wikipedia Nepal.
With the construction of Maithili page of the Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia in Maithili language has also begun. ‘Wikipedia’ is an online encyclopedia where anyone can contribute with write-ups and editing.
Wikimedia Nepal Chairperson Ganesh Poudel said the Wikipedia in Maithili language, which has been on test since 2008, has acquired endorsement after six years.
It is learnt that Bimplab Anand of Rajbiraj alone has contributed articles and write-ups in more than 800 topics in the Wikipedia.
One can view and also add information to Maithili Wikipedia through mai.wikipedia.org.
Linguistic Professors Yogendra Yadav and Shiva Bhushan Lal and journalist Dharmendra Jha submitted a report this week after assessing the contents of the Maithili Wikipedia.
Wikipedia has been so far developed in 287 languages in the world.
