Kanchanpur, Sept 3: Women of Krishnapur Pahariya, Kanchanpur have come together with awareness drive to remove Chhaupadi tradition – a social practice to keep menstruated woman out of the house considering impure.

Local women have joined their hands to put planned efforts to uproot discriminatory social tradition. Despite several previous initiatives against such social taboo remained ineffective, local women are moving ahead to make society sensitized in a bid to remove such inhumane practice.

Women of at least 25 households of Krishnapur VDC Pahariya are working together against Chhaupadi tradition. Though some of the Chhaupadi sheds were dismantled with growing sense of awareness among public in the villages, still a majority of women have to live in secluded palce during menstruation.

“A menstruated woman has to stay in shed far from house”, said Raju Budha, a local, adding, “Therefore, they are collectively working to make it a history”.
