Kathmandu, 15 March, 2015: The World Consumers’ Rights Day is being observed across the country today by organising various programmes under the theme of ‘Healthy Food Consumers’ Right.”

 

The Department of Commerce and Supplies Management organised a programme at its premises with an objective of creating awareness among the consumers for the guarantee of quality of daily essentials.

 

On the occasion, Minister for Commerce and Supplies Sunil Bahadur Thapa said that it was necessary to make consumers aware to ensure their rights.

 

Stating that the Ministry has been making preparations to establish a National Monitoring Department to make the monitoring act a result-oriented, Minister Thapa assured to make the consumer-friendly after some amendment to the Consumers Rights Act-2054 BS.

 

Likewise, State Minister for Supplies Giri Bahadur KC said that the rights of consumers would not be guaranteed until a positive thinking among general consumers was created.

 

He also stressed on the need of carrying out monitoring in all 75 districts in an effective manner.

 

Similarly, Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudyal expressed the belief that the rights of consumers would be guaranteed if the current human resources carried out their duties by coordinating with the bodies concerned honestly.

 

Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies Naindra Prasad Upadhyay said that all mechanisms would be mobilized after necessary reform in policy to ensure it.

 

Chairperson of the Administrative Court Kashiraj Dahal stressed for the necessity of the structural reform of the Commerce Department to establish consumers’ rights.

 

Shambhu Koirala, Director General of the Department, said that the monitoring act and action would be made effective along with awareness programmes to establish the rights.

 

On the occasion, different people and organisations were honoured for their contributions in protection of consumers’ rights.

 

Similarly, the Department also honoured different media, media persons, outstanding officials, district administration office.
