World Economic Forum selects Pradip Pariyar as Young Global Leader for 2020

Kathmandu: The World Economic Forum (WEF) has selected Executive Chairperson of Samata Foundation, Nepal, Mr.Pradip Pariyar as a Young Global Leaders for 2020.

Mr.Pariyar has been selected as one of 115 Young Global leaders from around the world. He was selected from the South Asian region along with nine others including young leaders and entrepreneurs from India, the Maldives, Pakistan, and Bhutan.

The selection was announced on Wednesday 11th March 2020 from WEF Head Quarters in Davos. The Forum of Young Global Leaders mission is to create a dynamic global community of exceptional people with vision, courage and influence to bring about positive change in the world.

According to the Forum of Young Global Leaders Pariyar was chosen for the 2020 Young Global Leaders award for his potential in and contribution to youth empowerment, peacebuilding and advocacy for social inclusion of Dalits and marginalised communities.

According to the World Economic Forum, the selected finalists were chosen after a “rigorous process and are expected to continue driving innovation for positive change across civil society, arts, culture, government and business”.

Pariyar specialises in youth empowerment, capacity building of media professionals and peacebuilding, states Samata Foundation, adding that he dreams of a just Nepal, a cohesive society where individual potential, competence, edification and hard slog defines a person rather than their birth.

He has also served as President of the Youth Association Nepal Association (AYON) and also a member of the High-Level National Youth Policy and Youth Vision 2025 Task Force in the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Nepal. He is a recipient of the Youth Leadership Award for his contributions and was recognized internationally for his work by Asia 21 Young Leaders and with an IMF/World Bank Fellowship.

Pariyar said that being a part of the class of 2020 has encouraged to step up my efforts toward inclusion, equality and social justice through public dialogue, policy advocacy as well as the implementation of innovative ideas.

“You will be an active member of the forum of Young Global Leaders which will enable you to participate in a five-year leadership programme comprised of personalized learning opportunities that suit your interests and objectives for impact,” a notice to the young leaders said.
