Singapore is hosting the UN-based World Summit Award Social Innovation Congress this June 29- July 1

Singapore, June 26, 2016: Digital technologies are one of the main drivers for the United Nations agenda towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The World Summit Award (WSA) Congress Singapore 2016 is being organized to showcase the top 40 of global digital innovations that are creating sustainable social change and making an impact world-wide. Bringing together young social entrepreneurs and innovators with international thought-leaders, ICT experts and regional stakeholders, the event promises a true knowledge transfer on how social innovation and entrepreneurship can be encouraged and play a key role to have a sustainable impact on society.

The World Summit Award Social Innovation Congress Singapore 2016 is organized in cooperation with the Creative Alliance Group and EP-SI Social Venture Fund. The main focus of the programme lies in digital innovations creating sustainable impact world-wide. The 40 WSA Winners 2015, the best regional applications from South-East-Asia and young social entrepreneurs and innovators, will make Singapore a hub for social innovation and entrepreneurship. The agenda also offers a vast array of international and local speakers sharing their insights on how the relevant local contents can lead to the system transformation and how technology will change our society in the future.

Ahmad Alhendawi, United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, talking about his participation in the WSA Social Innovation Congress shared that young people are powerful drivers of change in political, economic and social developments around the world. “With the optimum utilization of the power of ICTs and social media, youths have now been able to engage and participate like never before. We must continue to recognise the valuable contributions of young entrepreneurs and work together to ensure the success of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030,” he said.

The 3-days long program revolves around rocking the audiences mind sets and inspiring entrepreneurship and innovation with a real impact on society. Highlights are the motivational Ten Meters of Thinking by Paul Hughes, creating knowledge by drawing lines as he tells stories along ten meters of paper exploring leadership, innovation and transformation among other presenters. Interwoven with the intensive agenda, WSA offers also a unique outlay of networking opportunities, concluding in the festive Winners Gala ceremony on July 1.

WSA Chairman Prof. Peter A. Bruck shared that high quality interactive and local relevant content guarantees that people stay smarter than technology. “And, Singapore will offer the special stage to highlight the swing of modern mobile technologies serving to develop local communities, national social strategies and meaningful use of mobile technology,” he ensured.

The WSA Social Innovation Congress ensures an excellent selection of meaningful and relevant innovation in ICT and promises a vibrant programme of high level speakers and workshop leaders with solid networking opportunities on a global level.

The World Summit Award is a global initiative within the framework of, and in cooperation with, the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), in collaboration with UNESCO. WSA is a worldwide ICT award reaching digital entrepreneurs in over 170 countries.
