Kathmandu, August 1, 2016: The young scientist Shantosh Lamichhane was awarded with the title â€˜Wai Wai Glocal Teen Hero 2016â€™ amidst a special function organized in the capital today. Chief Guest of the programme, Ms. Valarie Julliand, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative handed over the Trophy to the winner.
The competition had been organized by Glocal Khabar (a concern of Glocal Pvt. Ltd.) in strategic alliance with the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Wai Wai, B.P. Koirala India Nepal Foundation of Embassy of India, and UNDP and Co-sponsored and supported by Panchakanya Group, Coca-Cola, Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Honda, Nepal Airlines, Buddha Air, Sparrow SMS, and QFX Cinemas.
Among 281 applications, top 6 were selected by the panel of jury on the basis of their innovation, impact and achievements. Those 6 finalists were then interviewed individually on the basis of their personality, domain knowledge and vision, on 26th of July.
â€˜Wai Wai Glocal Teen Heroâ€™ is a platform for Nepali Teenagers aged 13-19 years who are involved, initiator and achiever beside their school/college curriculum. The winner of the competition will also be recognized as Brand Ambassador of Glocal Pvt. Ltd. and will also be given the opportunity of Job shadowing amazing personalities and a documentary about him.
The top six teenagers were Anil Kharel aged 15- Sports, Rupandehi; Anjal Niraula aged 14- Social activist, Kathmandu; Deepak B.K. aged 18-Social, Pokhara; Gaurav Pokharel aged 15-writer, Jhapa; Samata Shrestha aged 19- poet, Kathmandu; and Shantosh Lamichhane aged 18- Science, Lalitpur.
The jury panel consisted of influential and prominent people Anil Keshary Shah, CEO of Mega Bank; Ambica Shrestha, President of Dwarikaâ€™s Hotel; Narottam Aryal, Executive Director of Kingâ€™s College; Samriddhi Rai, Singer/Artist; and Saurav Jyoti, Director of Jyoti Group.
â€œTo recognize the best amongst these exceptional teens that inspire the society for a positive change despite their age limit, it is a privilege to be a part of the Wai Wai Glocal Teen Hero 2016â€ said Ms. Valarie Julliand, Chief Guest for the award ceremony of Glocal Teen Hero 2016. The event was followed by a song by Alina Prajapati and Aashish Pokharel.
â€œGlocal, when we started, we were all below 20. We have a lot of teenagers working at Glocal today as well. We can see that there were 281 competitive applicants, 1 Hero, but there are still lots of other teenagers doing amazing. Age is just a number. We have examples for that statement here with us today, the finalists and all those 281 amazing teenagers,â€ said Asish Thakur, Executive Director of Glocal Pvt. Ltd.
The award ceremony of Wai Wai Glocal Teen Hero 2016 was held at Soaltee Crowne Plaza and was witnessed by 250+ personalities of Nepal from different walks of life, such as diplomats, politicians, film stars, entrepreneurs, youth leaders and many more.
The sole purpose of the event was to motivate the Nepalese teenagers to follow their dreams and to develop an entrepreneurial and social thinking for the sustainable development of our nation.
