CORPORATE TEAMS TO PARTICIPATE IN INDOOR CRICKET TOURNAMENT

Kathmandu, July 24: The Qatar Airways Corporate Indoor 8’s cricket tournament is being held from 30 July to 2 August at the Royal Indoor Cricket stadium, Golfutar, organised by Red Cherry Sports Management Private Ltd.

Being held for the first time in Nepal, 12 teams representing various corporate houses are taking part in the indoor cricket tournament organized to encourage corporate houses to showcase their cricketing talent and develop a good platform for development of the sport.

According to the organisers, the indoor cricket tournament will adhere to rules recognized by the Indoor Cricket Association with slight changes to adapt to local environment.

The participating 12 teams will be divided into two groups ‘A’ and ‘B’ with each squad comprising of 8 players each on the ground. In overall each team will have 10 players and a manager. The league games will be played for 12 overs, while the semi final and the final will have 16 overs each.

The games will be officiated by Nepal’s cricket authorities while Nepal’s National Cricket Team member Sharad Veshwakar has been designated as the events’ brand ambassador.

Speaking at a press conference here today, Qatar Airways’ Country Director, Ram Das Shivram, said that cricket was gaining popularity and such tournaments would help ensure a bright future for the sport in the country.

The winning team will be awarded a trophy, medals and certificates while the runner-up will be provided with a trophy, medals and certificates. The Player of the Tournament will be prized with a trophy, certificate and five start gift package whereas the Best Bowler and Batsman will receive a trophy each, certificate and five star gift package.

The group ‘A’ comprises of Civil Bank, Maxmedia, NIC Asia Bank, Yeti Holidays, Radisson Hotel Kathmandu, Apex Development Bank. The group ‘B’ consists of Janata Bank, Last Door Solutions, Ncell, UNICEF, Qatar Airways and Nepal Sports Journalist Forum.
