A 15 years old, 10th grader student at Shree Triveni Secondary School, Dhankuta, Anisha Ruchal is an enthusiastic Child Right Activist in her locality. She is the President of Ward level child club of 7th ward of Dhankuta Municipality and Secretary of newly formed Municipal Child Club. Likewise, she is RJ at Radio Makalu 92.2 Mhz and hosts a program called ‘Bal Chautari’ which is related to solve the issues of children and exploration of their hidden talent in them.

Starting of her journey

Her father always wanted to see developing different capabilities in her that may be useful at any stages of life. This is why her father took her to join Radio Makalu to host the program when she was in 7th grade. On asking how her motivation came to work for the children, she said “In our stereotypical society, women and children are still deprived from many opportunities. Ever since, I knew I could do something to change this trend, being a teen, I preferred working for the children”.

Making a difference

She has brought change in the life of many children through her Radio program. “Each individual in this world is born with a special talent, sadly, only few of them succeed to know about their god gifted talent. ‘Bal Chautari’ is all about exploring the hidden talent of each children”, she said. “Moreover, Bal Chautari speaks the problems faced by the children in their daily lives and also enlighten parents with the possible solution”, she added.

“Being in the child club of the ward, we are directly connected to the privilege given by the state on behalf of children. We have raised our strong voice to reveal the transparency of the budget. I think this has created impacts among the stakeholders”, she said about her work in child club. Moreover, she has conducted various awareness programs about child rights and training to children for self-empowerment. She and her team has aimed to declare the whole Dhankuta a children friendly district, this year.

A step towards teen hero

“I heard about Glocal Teen Hero for the first time from GTH team which was arrived in our school. They told everything about this campaign and more importantly, the bio of the previous GTH winner fascinated me so much. I thought the work I’m doing is also more similar to what they have done, which made me to apply for teen hero and luckily my work got recognized to be in 20 under 20.”

Being not mature enough to choose her profession in the future, she is determined to be on the child right activism forever. Her motivation towards doing good for the people, who seems are weak, is exemplary for the others as well.
