19 July, 2015: Helping Hands an Effort to Lift People (HHELP) organized a Blood Donation campaign on 8 July where 180 donors donated blood to the Nepal Red Cross Society. HHELP is also handing over the cloth/stationery collected to Suryodaya Primary School, Jhulunge-9, Sindhupalchowk.

Among many students, teachers and staffs that volunteered to donate their blood, only 180 were physically fit and were permitted to donate after being checked by the representatives from NRCS. Rohan Rajbhandari,19, donated blood for the first time in his life. He said, “I am proud for donating blood and knowing that my small act could probably save someone’s life.” Dr. Manita Rajkarnikar, representative from NRCS informed, “A single pint of blood can be used by three different acceptors after the components of the blood are segregated.” She added, “It is amazing to see students being anxious to donate blood. I had to console many of those who were not fit to donate blood.”

20150708_114205“We are overwhelmed by the response from the students, teachers and non-academic staffs” said Bhupesh Chand, President of HHELP. He added, “I am thankful to the college administration and the club members who put their efforts to make the event successful.” The event was co-ordinated by Garima Karki, Co-ordinator of HHELP. She recently won Hack The Quake competition and her next project is building houses for school.

“Blood Donation is annual program of HHELP. The club has been conducting Charity Show, Cloth/Stationery Donation, Bagmati Cleaning Campaign among others. HHELP collected fund to the acid-attack victims last January” informed Durgesh Pradhan, Vice-President of HHELP, the social club of Kathmandu Engineering College.
