NYCA addresses for SAARC Summit at Basantapur Today

Kathmandu, 18 Nov, 2014:  18th SAARC Summit is the burning issue of today’s scenario. As it is going to be held at Kathmandu for the third time on 26-27 November, every  South Asian citizen hopes that it will turn  productive.

To ensure the implementation of the declarations,  ahead of the upcoming meeting of the South Asian Association for Regional Corporation (SAARC) , Nepalese Youth for Climate Action (NYCA) organized a vibrant demonstration action to pressurize SAARC leaders to revisit the past decisions. The emphasis was to address the issues of climate change, food, security and disaster ensuring its effective implementation ,at Basantapur Durbar Square today.

10813794_774559599259538_118959559_o18th Nov, Tuesday,The program began with flashmob conspiring 50 youths, which was followed by very informative drama and ending with candle lighting. The drama was 25 min long drama and centralized on displaying the problems faced by people of South Asian countries allocating poverty, natural disaster & climate change and the climax of the drama showed happier Asia after the implementation of all those declarations that the SAARC leaders have made. The drama was directed by Ram Babu Regmi from Mandapika Kala Samuha.

In the midst of the drama, the candle lighting ceremony was done which was designed in the shape of SAARC map. It was done in the memory of the people of SAARC Asian people who lost their life due to the impacts of climate change, disaster and food insecurity.

10804613_774559722592859_665018746_o“On the occasion of SAARC Summit, it is one of the opportunity to add my contribution and address people about climate change and its impact”, says Saroj Aryal , one of the participant of drama.

Another participant, Sabita Shrestha says, “This is to spread awareness and issues of SAARC countries through drama”.

NYCA , a youth lead coalition of the Nepalese youth and youth groups is working to tackle climate change ,the biggest challenge of our generation. With the motto, “Caring for Climate, caring for Ourselves”  it organized a noteworthy program to aware local youth today.
