Role of Youth against Rape and all kinds of violence against women

Kathmandu, October 18, 2018: A discussion program ‘Role of Youth against Rape and all kinds of violence against women’ was successfully organized to expressed the views of distinct speakers about the ongoing women related issues at Pasa Yard on October 12, 2018. The program was arranged by the collaboration of Centre for Research and Sustainable Development Nepal (CREASION) and Nepal Policy Centre (NPC). It was led by SP Kiran Rana from Nepal Police, Advocate Bishnu Maya Bhusal, Activist Dr.Lhamo Sherpa and Executive Director of Women for Human Rights, Sumeera Shrestha as the key speakers and Mukesh Jha from Nepal Policy Center as the moderator.

In the course of discussion, SP Kiran Rana mentioned how Nepal Police has been closely analyzing the incidents and has successfully solved 90% of such reported cases while remaining getting delayed due to the investigation procedures. On the other hand, advocate Bishnu Bhusal emphasized that since Nepal has strict laws which does not require further amendments until some time being, such problems can only be solved through people’s consciousness. The program also highlighted the importance of parents guidance to minimize the crimes.

Around 1450 rape incidents has been reported in the last five months which has created lots of unease in the country. Therefore, the prime objective of this program was to bring the youths together to put their queries forward and generate their consciousness on their roles in such sensitive issues despite of the festive season.
