Technical Talk Program on “Requisites of Quality Infrastructural Development in Nepal”

Kathmandu, 16 Feb, 2015 : Integrated Learning Institute (ILI) organized a technical talk program entitled “Requisites of Quality Infrastructural Development in Nepal” yesterday in Kathmandu at Heritage Regale, Blue Bird Mall, Thapathali in the presence of Mr. Leela Mani Poudyal, the Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal as the chief guest of the program. More than 200 engineering students and graduates attended the program along with Principals/Head of Departments of several engineering colleges, representatives from consulting and construction companies, IT firms, Nepal Hydropower Association, SCAEF, etc.

Capture.PNG1The special guest of the program was Er. Dhruba Raj Thapa, the president of Nepal Engineers’ Association. There were three presentations by the speakers namely Er. BhimUpadhyaya, the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, Er. Sher Singh Bhat, the General Manager of the Nepal Electricity Authority and Hirendra Man Pradhan, the Chairman of Kathmandu Engineering College.

In the program, Mr. Upadhyaya presented the development works carried out for improving the life of people in rural areas, quality issues in these development works and the existing norms of the government regarding the rural infrastructure development, 7 sectors of infrastructures development in Nepal, budget allocation etc. Similarly, Mr. Bhat pointed out the importance of planning, design, implementation, operation and maintenance in development of hydropower projects. On the other hand, Professor Pradhan discussed about quality issues in engineering education and highlighted its importance among the audience presented in the program. The Special Guest of the program Er. Thapa focused on entrepreneurship.

 

Meanwhile the Chief Guest of the program Mr. Poudyal mentioned the importance of quality works especially in developing countries like ours. “Quality is not always expensive. Low quality of works turns out as expenses everywhere and we have to pay it with interest”, Mr. Poudyal added.

The program was chaired by Dr. LaxmiBhaktaShilpakar, the president of Integrated Learning Institute (ILI) at the mean time inauguration of Integrated Learning Institutes “guiding towards job career” was also held.

Many engineering students from different engineering college attended the talk program. Most of the students from Kantipur Engineering and Himalayan college of engineering expressed the need for the practical education in their courses, update of syllabus as per the change in time and need, required skills and technical knowhow of the construction industry, hydropower development projects etc must be implemented to create more job opportunities in Nepal.

After the event there was a High tea where different personalities and engineering students enjoyed socialization. There was an opportunity to interact directly with speakers and guests and students from other universities.  They exchanged their views and opinions with each others about the existing quality infrastructural development in Nepal.
