Youths held for ‘Dreams’ movie piracy


Kathmandu, June 3, 2016: Police on Wednesday arrested two youth for their alleged involvement in piracy of Nepali movie ‘Dreams’.

Bidhan Gurung (21) from Bhairahawa-13 of Rupandehi district and Chandra Labaju (21) from Tapachal-3 of Bhaktapur district were arrested from the office of Highlights Nepal Pvt Ltd in Kathmandu yesterday.

Issuing a press statement today, the Metropolitan Police Crime Division said police had swung into action after complaints were filed with police by the movie’s copyright holder among others that some persons illegally made copies of the movie and made a loss of Rs 10.35 million to the copyright holder.

While investigating into the complaints filed by Highlights Nepal Pvt Ltd and Super Kajal Films Pvt Ltd as well as a letter from the Nepal Film Artists’ Association, police made the arrest, the statement said.

Police also confiscated two CPUs, a mobile phone and a pendrive from the suspects.

Further investigation is underway.
