Yunus Social Business Center Awards Three Innovative Entrepreneurs

Kathmandu, March 21, 2018: Yunus Business Center (YSBC), Kings College has concluded the third cohort of ‘2018 Demo Day’ on March 15, 2018, at Kings College, Kathmandu.

Four out of the total seven participants namely – Mahesh Dahal, Aditya Raj, Rasna Shrestha and Suyash Shrestha and Bibek Mishra pitched their business ideas within 5 minutes time, which was followed by a question and answer session. A team of jury comprising of Victoria Ous (Program Director, Rockstart Impact), Bibhushan Bista (CEO, Young Innovations Pvt. Ltd.), Juna Mathema (Managing Director, Bliz Media), and Saurabh Rijal (Investment Facilitation Expert, World Bank) chose the best four ideas and awarded them with the seed fund.

Mahesh Dahal from Make Me See, Aditya Raj from Wholesale Bazaar, and Rasna Shrestha and Suyash Shrestha from Nuga Essence were selected as winners in the program. The winners received a sum of Rs. 150,000 each by the College to implement their business ideas.The rest of the incubatees who went through the 15 weeks of training and mentoring at the center are Shreeya Sharma (Pretty Pets), Bibek Mishra (Prayas), Ravi Shankar Shah (MOMS Nepal) and Manish Maharjan (NepCraft).

The program aims to encourage the youth to come up with innovative business ideas that could be shaped into ventures through incubation, facilitation and financial support. The incubation program runs for 15 weeks wherein workshops are held on dedicated topics and the incubatees are mentored throughout. The incubatees are also supported feasibly after the mentoring period.

According to Nanda Kishor Mandal, head of the YSBC, a total 17 ventures have been shaped in the previous two cohorts and seven among them were seed funded internally while the rest of the ventures received external funds and boosted their businesses.

“Incubation Program is an annual program of YSBC, King’s College; where aspiring entrepreneurs having business ideas or a business can apply so that they can change it into a viable business with the help of training, mentoring, and other services provided by the center,” added Mandal.

YSBC is established by King’s College in partnership with Yunus Center which aims to alleviate poverty by promoting entrepreneurship in Nepal.
