Handicraft Trade Fair and Competition to Kick Off at November 14

Kathmandu, October 28, 2018: The 13th Handicraft Trade Fair and 14th Handicraft Competition is ready to kick off on November 14 at Bhrikutimandap. The event will be of 5 days aiming to develop and promote the domestic handicraft market.

It is jointly organised by the Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal. Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply and Trade and Export Promotion Centre.

In the press statement, FHAN stated, “The event will cover an exhibition displaying 200 stalls from all the district association and commodity association. Among which 20 stalls will be separated for the international handicraft traders from India, China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.”

The theme of this year is ‘Handicraft: Prospects for Prosperity’. The event will be a platform for developing the trade fair as a business hub for handicraft among SAARC regions.

The organizers stated, “Handicraft products like wood-craft, metal-craft, gold and silver jewellery, felt products, woollen, cotton and Dhaka products, pashmina, handmade papers, leather shoes and leather related products, natural fibre and bamboo products will be showcased during the five-day trade fair. Wax statue and Dhaka stitching will be held under handicraft competition in the fair. Likewise, discussion programmes will also be organised, exploring contemporary issues regarding handicraft sector.”

The fair will be inaugurated by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and declare Lalitpur Metropolitan City as ‘Craft City’.
