More than 200 participants joined ‘Hamro Cycle Yatra 2018’

Kathmandu, June 10, 2018: More than 200 participants attended ‘Hamro Cycle Yatra 2018’ on June 9, 2018 including sanitation workers, youths, journalist, doctors, ward representatives and local police.

This event proposed an action #DignityForAll initiated by CREASION (Center for Research and Sustainable Development Nepal) in regards to honor the sanitation workers as equal as other social entity. This initiation was influenced from the theme of Environment Month taking sanitation and cleanliness as its prime objective.

The event started from Narayan Chaur at 7 a.m. and ended at Shivapuri School by 12 p.m. Health camps, refreshments, recreational activities and felicitation program was organized within this event schedule.

Chairperson Ward no.3, Dipak KC and DSP Dan Bahadur Malla were in the event as special guest to honor sanitation workers.

Rohan Shrestha, the event head says, “Honoring sanitation workers for a day isn’t enough, they should be respected and well treated all 365 days and this Hamro Cycle Yatra is a beginning step towards this milestone.” A cycle rally and a walking rally began as an opening activity of this event. Sanitation workers participated in the cycle rally using their own cycles whereas rest of the participants joined the walking rally.

A sanitation worker associated with NEPSEMAC said, “I feel so honored to participate in this program dedicated to us. I am looking forward to attend environmental related programs in future too and I believe with the jointed effort of different institutions a sustainable change can be made.”

Furthermore, Roshna Subedi Mishra, Program Officer from VFC adds, “We are looking impactful ways to address this message in coming future. We will definitely need additional support in upcoming days.”

The program was organized by VFC (Volunteer for Change) program by CREASION.

A strong group of volunteers along with event participants, partners Shivapuri Secondary School, Community Police Service Center, Metropolitan Police Circle, Kantipur Dental Hospital, Mero Hospital and co-sponsors Nepal Bank Limited, Jyoti Bikash Bank Limited collaborated to make this program successful.
