Phalebas (Parbat), Sept 24: The number of small entrepreneurs, who utilize the local raw materials and create opportunities for self-employment, has reached nearly 2000 in Parbat district.
A total of 1,920 entrepreneurs are recorded in the district, according to Sita Sharma, Coordinator of the Cottage and Small Industries Development Committee.
Most of the entrepreneurs have received income-generation training from various organizations and are found to be involved in around 50 small cottage industries, mostly in vegetable farming, poultry, goat rearing and bee-keeping.
Similarly, weaving clothes from allo fibre and producing bamboo and cane materials also have been the choice of these small entrepreneurs.
Of the total 1,920 entrepreneurs, 987 were found to be actively running their cottage industries whereas 415 were seen inactive and 483 partly-active, shared Coordinator Sharma, adding that the partly-active entrepreneurs were those who run their cottage industries on seasonal basis.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under the Micro-Enterprise Development for Poverty Alleviation (MEDPA) has set up seven Service Centres in the district to facilitate the small entrepreneurs.
