Kathmandu, Jan 22: Press Chautari Nepal on Thursday condemned the threat allegedly issued by UCPN (Maoist) leader Agni Sapkota on Nepal Samacharpatra Daily Editor Tanka Pant in connection to the news coverage of Constituent Assembly.

Press Chautari has charged that when the journalists put forth questions after lawmakers expressed concern over their subjection to security checking at the entrance of the CA building, leader Sapkota told journalist Pant, “We have read the news you have written, and it will be subjected to appropriate assessment at the appropriate time.”

Chautari’s General Secretary Madhav Nepal in a press statement alleged that the statement of threat issued over free press by a leader of UCPN (Maoist), which has joined the mainstream politics as a ‘serious subject’, and advised the leader to correct his statement made against press freedom.

Pant, who is also a board member of Nepal Television, is a former treasurer of Press Chautari.
“We appeal for an immediate public apology over the anarchic statement,” the press statement reads.
