5 March 2015 : Â Batsman Kyle Coetzer said Scotland “showed the world what we’re capable of” despite having their World Cup hopes ended by Bangladesh.
Scotland became the first side that cannot qualify for the quarter-finals after a six-wicket defeat in Nelson.
Coetzer hit 156 – the highest ODI score by a Scot – in their total of 318-8, Scotland’s highest at a World Cup.
“We’ve been capable of doing it in the previous matches but not quite managed to put the game together,” he said.
Tamim Iqbal made 95 and Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan rapid half-centuries as Bangladesh completed the second-highest successful chase in World Cup history with 11 balls to spare.

“We played a pretty good game of cricket today,” Coetzer told BBC Sport. “We just weren’t able to create that pressure to pick up the wickets.
“We’re still searching to get the full package together.
“It showed the amount of cricket that Bangladesh have played. They cruised it in the end. They knew how to chase down a score like that.”
Opener Coetzer struck 17 fours and four sixes in his 134-ball innings, which surpassed the previous best of 73 by a Scotland player in a World Cup.
It was also the highest score by an associate nation batsman in World Cup history, while his century stand with captain Preston Mommsen was Scotland’s first in the competition.
“I am happy with how my performance went,” said Northamptonshire batsman Coetzer.
“It maybe wasn’t my traditional innings where I’d probably try to play a few more shots up front.
“I didn’t get as much of a strike as I’d have liked at the start, but fair play to the guys at the other end, hitting boundaries, which took the pressure off me.”
Scotland, who have now lost all 12 of their World Cup games dating back to 1999, face Sri Lanka on Wednesday and Australia on Saturday, both in Hobart.
“We’ve got to try to put them under pressure early doors and see what comes of it,” he said.
“It will be nice to see Scotland put on a good show in both those games.”
