Discussion of Domestic Tourism & Survival Strategy in XcelTrip Webinar

Realizing the importance of domestic tourism to keep Nepali tourism business alive after corona pandemic is over, XcelTrip Nepal organized a webinar (online seminar) on April 27, 2020 on Domestic Tourism & Survival Strategy (impact, Survival & Roadmap to a better future). XcelTrip is one of the fastest growing online travel platforms in the world.

Main speakers of the webinar were Senior Tourism Entrepreneur Mr. Karna Shakya; President of Nepal Trekking Agents Association Mr. Khum Subedi; Former Executive Chief Officer of Nepal Tourism Board Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi and First Vice President of Hotel Association Nepal Mr. Binayak Shah. Talking about how tourism of Nepal could be supported by domestic tourism in the absence of foreign tourists, Mr. Sakya said, government must spend money that it has earmarked for Visit Nepal 2020 for development and promotion of domestic tourism. He further said Nepal Tourism Board should focus on making videos in Nepali language of natural, cultural and historical destinations. He emphasized that the Ministry of Tourism should open a separate research unit and make a checklist of the innumerable cultural, natural heritages and food that have been scattered in the different corners of Nepal. He emphasized that when Provincial government develop the touristic spots it should focus of rural environment instead of urban landscape,

Similarly, Mr. Binayak Shah said that the Hotel Association Nepal is mulling a special plan to prepare special package for Nepali travellers. He said if the government extends support, Nepalese would be able to travel comfortably all over the country in the coming days within their budget.

Mr. Subedi said that TAAN is preparing special packages targeting Nepali trekkers. He said that Nepal’s trekking areas are ready to welcome Nepali tourists. Referring to the incensement of Nepali travellers after 2016, Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi said that it needs to be managed well. He said that the government and tourism entrepreneurs should pay special attention to requirement of Nepali tourists to woo Nepali people in travelling.
