Acid Attack On Two School Girls Sparks All-Side Protests

Kathmandu, Feb 23, 2015: The acid attack on two teenage girls in the heart of the capital on Sunday morning has been widely criticised.

Two students of Basantapur-based Kanti Ishwari School who were preparing for the upcoming School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exams came under acid attack by an unidentified man when they were waiting for morning tuition classes at a local tuition center.

Various organisations including National Campaign for Education (NCE) Nepal, the National Coalition for Children as Zones of Peace (CZOP) and Institute of Human Rights Communication in Nepal have condemned the incident and demanded strong action against the guilty. The attack on two school girls had made us very sad and it is a serious threat to the country’s security system and civilization as well and an open violation of the school as zone of peace concept, the organisations said in their statements.
All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) close to Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN –Maoist organised a rally at Basantapur today, in protest against the incident.
