Kathmandu, November 18, 2017: Open Knowledge Nepal is all set to organize ‘Open Data Hackathon’ this November 25 as part of its ongoing open data awareness campaign.
Open Knowledge Nepal recently completed the Open Data Awareness Program from Oct 8 – Nov 11 at different colleges and youth organizations across various cities of Nepal, aiming to sensitize students and youth about Open Data in Nepal, and raise awareness about the concept and usage of ‘Open Data’ to Nepal’s digital natives, who are the current youth population and the potential future decision-makers and leaders of Nepal.
After the conclusion of the all the workshops, the hackathon event is being organized to bring together selected participants from colleges and youth organizations, to work collaboratively on opening up data currently in a closed format. At the hackathon event, the participants will share their experiences of learning and working with open data and will discuss ways to engage more young people in the open data movement in Nepal. The awareness program is also an opportunity for increased civic awareness and engagement and participatory governance as well.
Who can apply?
Everyone! Developers, Students, Data Analyst, Data Enthusiasts, Designers, Makers, UI/UX designers, Artists, Animators, Storytellers, Students.
What should you build?
Based on the types of data you choose (Election, Spending, and Agricultural), your team will receive a task to extract and analyze certain datasets in the first phase, then in the second phase your team can work on any kinds of innovative idea by using those data.
Top 5 ideas pitched at the event will be selected for further incubation and mentorship.
