Kathmandu, Nov 7: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said keeping social harmony and national unity intact was the present need of the country.

Inaugurating the Kathmandu corporate office of Himshikhar Television on Saturday, the Prime Minister said the new constitution has incorporated the provisions of equal opportunity to all by ending social inequalities and discriminations. He expected a positive support from all sectors to implement new constitution effectively.

Now the time has come for taking the country towards the path of development with maximum utilisation of available natural resources and diversities, he stressed, expressing determination of carving out a way for taking the country towards prosperity with the modernisation of agro sector, promotion of textiles and ultimately making the country self-reliant.

The PM pledged to rid Nepal of load shedding within a year while stating that the country should now move towards use of electricity as source of energy.

“We should focus on operating metro rail, trolley bus and electric vehicles after a reliable study in Kathmandu Valley as an alternative to fuel,” PM Oli said, sharing ambition, “We will soon make the East-West highway six lanes, and construct a road from Chautara of Sindhupalchowk to Sindhuli; develop film city, IT city and a modern city around Marsyangdi, Tanahun and Lamjung; and open all trade points at the northern region.”

PM said he would make the districts surrounding the Kathmandu a pocket sector of vegetable cultivation by extending the highway in the mid hilly region and launch fruit cultivations and develop new settlements.

He expressed gratitude to the Nepali people for their patriotism at a difficult time and said he has been touched by people’s grief.

“We are not against India; government is not against India. I urge India to try to know the Nepali’s spirit as they want to have intimate relations with India. Provide fuel to Nepal. I thank Indian intellectuals and media there for sympathizing Nepal’s plight.”

Moreover, the PM said the blockade has ruined Nepal’s economy. He urged the agitating political parties to join talks, as the government was flexible to address their genuine demands.

According to him, present need was the unity among major three political parties to resolve the crisis.

On a different note, the PM stressed that the media should be free, secure and accountable.

On the occasion, Minister for Information and Communications Technology Sherdhan Rai underscored the unity amongst one and all for the effective implementation of the newly promulgated constitution. He said it has secured the rights of every nationalities, minorities, communities and classes.

Stating that the newly promulgated constitution was endorsed by an overwhelming majority of the Constituent Assembly members, Minister Rai termed it an ‘ace model’.

The Minister urged the media persons to disseminate factual news rather and discourage misleading news in connection to the new constitution.

“I appeal to the media persons to understand the essence and crux of the new constitution and disseminate the news accordingly,” he stressed.

Similarly, Nepali Congress Central Committee member Keshav Kumar Budhathoki pointed put the need for the unity amongst one and all concerned for the effective implementation of the new constitution.

Chairman of Him Sikhar Television Dhurba Neupane and its Managing Director Ram Kumar Basnet said that since this television channel had lately taken wider mileage despite the odds, they were more committed to moving ahead with additional responsibilities.

The Him Sikhar Television, a regional television channel which began its broadcasting three years back is now augmented to the national one.
