Kathmandu, 11 January, 2018: Nepal is finally receiving internet bandwidth from China from January 12. According to Nepal Telecom Company (NTC), this groundwork has been accomplished to assemble Nepal with Chinese bandwidth from Friday.
Prativa Baidhya, the Spokesperson for NTC, mentioned that the process of perceiving internet bandwidth from China has been completed whereas the commercial operation of optical fibre link will start from this Friday. However, NT did not reveal the volume of internet bandwidth that Nepal is receiving.
NTC had an agreement with China Telecom to perceive internet bandwidth, but the commercial operations of the optical fibre link had been postponed for time and again due to some technical issues. NT had begun the transmission test from the first week of September 2016 after the technical problems was fixed. NT informed that Nepal will be now able to connect commercially with Chinese bandwidth through the Rasuwagadhi Gateway.
Nepal has taken Chinese bandwidth only as an alternative source to meet the increasing demand of internet in the country. This commercial operation of Chinese bandwidth will decrease Nepal’s dependence on India for Internet bandwidth. Currently, Nepal is solely associated to global internet connectivity through Indian Telecom operators. To end the exclusive monopoly of bandwidth supply, Chinese gateway is also facilitating the service providers in Nepal to set up bandwidth connection with other countries through China.
NT is purchasing small volume of internet in the initial phase will increase the volume of Chinese internet gradually. Simultaneously, the increased optional bandwidth from China will help to reduce the internet cost for consumers and uplift the quality of internet in the country. Currently, Nepal telecom is using Hongkong’s server, but after the Chinese bandwidth will be introduced customers most probably won’t face any problems surfing Google and other sites.
